Teaching Statement & Dossier Editing

Teaching statements—and the collections of evidence that we produce to support them—can be challenging to write, even for the strongest, most dedicated instructors. The best teaching statements distill an individual instructor’s approach to teaching in their discipline, institutional context, and specializations.

When I edit teaching statements and dossiers, I strive to ensure that your statement accurately reflects your beliefs and approaches, covering the full scope of your teaching responsibilities, and aligning with what the research evidence shows us about effective teaching practices.

I began supporting my peers with their teaching statements and dossiers while I was still in grad school, after I won the University of Toronto’s inaugural Course Instructor Teaching Excellence Award in 2015. I now regularly edit 6–8 statements and dossiers each year, as a part of job applications, P&T applications, and award nomination packages.

My Advice for Teaching Statements:

Pricing for Statement & Dossier Editing:

  • For the Teaching Statement only, I can offer two rounds of editing for a flat rate of $500CDN + tax. For many (but not all) clients, I’ll recommend that we have a 30-minute conversation over Zoom, in which I ask you questions about your approach to teaching and your beliefs about how students learn; I will draw on your responses as I make substantive and structure edits for your statement. This edit usually takes around eight business days.
  • If you need your full Teaching Dossier edited, my package includes all the services for the Teaching Statement edit as well as compiling and organizing the support materials for your dossier into an internally hyperlinked PDF with a Table of Contents. This service costs $1200CDN + tax and usually takes around 12 business days.
